Dotson adds value as a punt returner and finished his final season at Penn State with 91 catches for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns. Creating separation with his nuanced route-running and quickness, Dotson has outstanding hands and is elusive in the open field even though he won’t break a lot of tackles. The Commanders had only one receiver (Terry McLaurin) with 400-plus yards last season and will benefit from adding a talented receiver like Dotson. Washington Commanders: Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State Green was my 30th-ranked prospect, so this is a bit of a reach here.ġ6. Improved hand usage will help cut down on holding penalties, but the former five-star recruit has a powerful lower half, outstanding length and is at his best in the run game. Green is ideally suited to play guard, although his added versatility is a plus. Green started at right guard in 2019, left guard in ’20 and then made starts at all offensive line positions except center in ’21. Houston Texans: Kenyon Green, OL, Texas A&M With a rare combination of size and length at the position, Hamilton’s athleticism, fluidity, smarts and instincts allow him to make plays all over the field against the run and pass.ġ5. Hamilton’s timed 40-yard dashes-4.59 at the combine and in the 4.7 range at Notre Dame’s pro day-disappointed, but he has outstanding range. The Ravens get a steal with my second-ranked player overall. Baltimore Ravens: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame While he may primarily be utilized as a two-down run stuffer to begin his career, his elite mobility (4.78 40-yard dash at 341 pounds) should enable him to develop into a more disruptive player on passing downs.ġ4. His impact is not always felt in the box score, but he opens up opportunities for those around him to make plays. Physically imposing and stout at the point of the attack, Davis immediately provides a shot in the arm to Philadelphia’s run defense. It’s not surprising to see Howie Roseman use a first-round pick on the defensive line. Philadelphia Eagles: Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia Chark to a one-year deal, but the speedy Williams provides the Lions with an ideal long-term complement to Amon-Ra St. ![]() Even if he were to miss time to start his rookie season, Williams has the talent to emerge as the WR1 in this draft class. Despite tearing his ACL in January, Williams is “ahead of schedule” in his rehab. While not just a deep threat, Williams’s track background shows up on the field with his game-breaking speed. Williams had a breakout season (79/1,572/15) in 2021 after transferring to Alabama. Detroit Lions: Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama The pick and team are a great match, but the Saints gave up a lot (98th and 120th picks) to move up for my fifth-ranked receiver and 23rd-ranked prospect overall.ġ2. 1, but he complements Michael Thomas well. Olave is more of a complementary receiver than a true No. He finished his Ohio State career with a school record for receiving touchdowns (35) and averaged 15.4 yards per catch. Due to his speed and ability to track the ball well, he can be a weapon in the vertical passing game. Olave creates easy separation as one of the most polished route-runners in this year’s draft class. New Orleans Saints: Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State Cross was my ninth-ranked prospect, but many expected him to be off the board before this.ġ1. All of his starts have been at left tackle, and he provides the Seahawks with an immediate upgrade there as a day one starter. The two-year starter has plus length (34 ½" arms), athleticism, balance and hand placement. Seattle Seahawks: Charles Cross, OL, Mississippi StateĬross has had tons of pass-blocking reps over the past two seasons, and the former five-star recruit showed significant improvement from 2020 to ’21. He’s a big-bodied receiver that fits the type that Arthur Smith prefers, and he fills an immediate void at receiver, as Calvin Ridley is suspended for 2022 and Russell Gage signed with the Bucs.ĩ. ![]() London is a young prospect (turns 21 in late July), but he was highly productive-88 receptions for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns in just eight games-last season. His wide catch radius and strong hands help him dominate at the catch point. Atlanta Falcons: Drake London, WR, USCĪ former USC basketball player, London uses his large frame well to box out defenders. ![]() Of course, online options have their perks, too. The results of the field work will enable us to define and select our best targets for diamond drilling.” stated Karim Rayani – President & Chief Executive Officer, Director. It is common that the higher conductivity representing Ni-Cu bearing massive sulphides are missed by previous operators and these lenses of mineralization are located just off-hole. We are very keen to determine if the historic drill collars can be located, and if it is possible to conduct low frequency BHEM downhole surveys on these holes. We remain confident that our field crews will not only confirm historical showings, but also find new Ni-Cu-Co-occurrences along these trends. ![]() The Duhamel Property is a fertile host for Ni-Cu-Co massive sulphides and iron Ti-V-Cr mineralization demonstrated by historical exploration. “Exploration crews are now mobilized at the Duhamel Ni-Cu-Co Property, we are extremely pleased with the results of the heliborne survey in generating targets. And then they hook up (after such a long, loaded pause before they kiss that I started to expect a Joss Whedon–style meta-joke about how corny it is to have fantasy sex in a forest). Instead, he counsels Renfri to give up on revenge and begin a new life somewhere outside Blaviken. Here, Geralt again refuses, still doing his best to not kill anybody despite everybody wanting him to kill somebody. Renfri also wants revenge on Stregobor, and she wants Geralt to help her get it. Geralt himself is judged by many others to be a monster, and his subsequent conversation reveals the horrifying humanity of the “curse” Stregobor described from Renfri’s perspective: She’s a former princess who was robbed and raped by a man Stregobor sent to kill her, and she killed him in self-defense. The moral distinction here, which I suspect will be woven throughout the series, is what exactly separates a “monster” - which Geralt is trained and paid to hunt - from a person, whom Geralt earnestly tries to spare from violence (even when it seems like they deserve it). Either way, the path takes Geralt back to Renfri (Emma Appleton), a woman Stregobor claims is afflicted with the curse, and whom he wants Geralt to kill. Is this true? Probably not, but who knows? We just jumped into the Witcher universe and it’s not quite clear what the rules are yet. He’s also deeply paranoid about some prophecy called the Curse of the Black Sun, which says that 60 women born during a full eclipse will grow up and be servants of a demon named Lilit, who will destroy the world. Stregobor is a weird, shady wizard who uses magic to populate his secret lair with fake naked women. On one end, you have Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen, Sherlock star and brother of Mads). ![]() It’s here that The Witcher basically becomes a fantasy take on Yojimbo, with Geralt caught between two sides that are similarly morally compromised. But as he quickly learns, there’s other work to be had if he doesn’t mind getting his hands a little dirty. Unfortunately for Geralt, he killed the wrong monster the bounty was actually for a graveir ( which looks nothing like a kikimora, but whatever). The trade-off is that everybody hates them, even as they reluctantly rely on them for difficult jobs a regular person couldn’t do. ( The witcher, even.) The premiere doesn’t quite come out and explain this, but witchers are essentially monster hunters for hire, raised for the job from childhood and granted extraordinary supernatural powers that included super strength, night vision, and an extended lifespan. The fight is going badly for Geralt until it isn’t he stabs the kikimora in the head and wanders off to a town called Blaviken to collect a bounty for it. Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) - a white-haired, cat-eyed, spell-casting vagabond who carries two swords, and is quick and deadly with both of them - is squaring off against some kind of giant spider monster we’ll later discover is called a kikimora. Given the complexity of The Witcher’s world, it’s probably for the best that the show’s actual introduction is so simple. Good or bad, this show will require the kind of patience that cancel-happy Netflix hasn’t recently seemed inclined to give (which is why it’s a hopeful sign that it’s already green-lit a second season).įor better or worse, “The End’s Beginning” is surprisingly light on exposition, throwing a bunch of weird-sounding fantasy names at the audience and expecting us to keep up. My point? It’s rare that a TV show knocks it out of the park with its first episode - but it’s especially tricky for a fantasy show like Netflix’s own attempt at the “next Game of Thrones,” The Witcher, which has to introduce a bunch of characters and an entire fantasy world with its own history and rules and politics. Even the Game of Thrones premiere that did finally air - while reportedly much improved - isn’t exactly the show’s finest hour, with reams of clunky exposition designed to define the boundaries of a whole sprawling world for an audience that will likely have no context for it. The show’s original pilot was famously disastrous, requiring extensive recasting and reshoots just to be comprehensible to audiences. LeGuin’s Earthsea, Patrick Rothfuss’s The Kingkiller Chronicle, and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time have all been snapped up with an eye toward a splashy debut on the small screen.īut Game of Thrones wasn’t always Game of Thrones. It’s why Amazon paid a truly absurd amount of money for Lord of the Rings why HBO developed four distinct Game of Thrones spinoffs before picking one and why the rights of properties like Ursula K. ![]() This is fascinating in that in Mann’s later life he had to confront the rise of Nazism in his homeland. We learn from your book that Mann was fascinated by the role of the artist as artist versus that of artist as citizen. The serious writer is to be distinguished from the journalist who discusses books in the newspapers (in the “ Feuilleton” section of German newspapers). In my view, Edmund Wilson deserves that honor. How would that play out, for example, in the case of Edmund Wilson?įor Mann, the term ‘ Dichter’ - literally “poet,” but better translated as “man of letters” - inherits an especially honorable status from German tradition, and he wants to claim that honor for people who write in prose. You write that Mann made a distinction between a man of letters and a writer. Mann’s novella takes place under a southern sun that may trick us into thinking that all is as it seems James takes us through the fog of complex interpersonal relations. By contrast, in The Ambassadors or The Golden Bowl, James deploys the groping language of everyday interactions to suggest the possibilities latent in the situations his characters encounter. The prose of Death in Venice is crystalline, apparently lucid - until you realize the multiple possibilities of irony and the juxtaposition of different narrative voices. Although there are points of more or less rapid change, I don’t think there’s any sharp division into “early” and “late” periods.īut Mann and James achieve their effects quite differently. In both instances, the style evolves and enables the author to deal in rich ambiguities. In your book you write, “To record the experiences of his author-protagonist Aschenbach, Mann crafted a new prose style, increasing the length and syntactic complexity of his sentences, the richness of his vocabulary.” Was this somewhat like the difference between the early and later works of Henry James? By contrast, Proust, Joyce, and Kafka were on the verge of publishing their first notable works: Swann’s Way would appear in 1913, Dubliners in 1914, Metamorphosis in 1915, and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man in 1916. Musil had published a controversial early novel ( The Confusions of Young Törless), but his vast, unfinished masterpiece ( The Man without Qualities) would only appear many years later. By 1912, Mann had already had one major success ( Buddenbrooks) and had followed it up with an influential novella ( Tonio Kröger). His great contemporaries were Proust, Joyce, Kafka, and Robert Musil. How old was he and who were comparable writers of the time? ![]() You start out your book with a bit of scene setting about Thomas Mann’s life in 1911–1912, the period he worked on and published Death in Venice. There are other masterpieces, too, for example, Joseph and his Brothers (a tetralogy which is really neglected these days). The Magic Mountain and Doctor Faustus would have to be on anyone’s list of the 50 great novels in world literature. Buddenbrooks is the great 19th century German novel (even though it was published in 1901 - German literature was late in moving into the nineteenth century). I’m not sure how many American readers read Mann these days - when I was young, he was clearly viewed as one of the great novelists of the twentieth century, and much more accessible than Proust or Joyce. It’s brilliantly written and fascinatingly many-sided. It’s been translated into English many times, and some of the recent translations (those of David Luke, Clayton Koelb, and Michael Heim) are excellent. It also served as the main inspiration for the 1990 novel Love and Death on Long Island, a more humorous take on the novel that also gives it a Setting Update to 1990s America, which in turn received a 1997 film adaptation made by director Richard Kwietniowski, starring John Hurt and Jason Priestley.Death in Venice is one of the great pieces of short fiction in any language. Benjamin Britten has adapted this into an opera, and director Luchino Visconti made a 1971 film adaptation of the novella ( Morte a Venezia) starring Dirk Bogarde and Björn Andrésen. The novella is highly autobiographical: while holidaying in Venice, thirty-seven-year-old Mann, a married father, had crushed from afar on a ten-year-old Polish aristocrat, Wladyslaw Moes. ![]() Gustav finds himself drawn deeply into a ruinous inward passion, which has bad consequences for him as there is a cholera epidemic currently going down in the city. The story is about an aged writer, Gustav von Aschenbach, who travels to Venice on advice of his doctor and falls in love with a stunningly good-looking, aristocratic boy of fourteen, Tadzio, to whom he never speaks. Death in Venice is a 1912 novella written by the German author, Thomas Mann (original title Der Tod in Venedig). ![]() It’s difficult to get down at first, but handy to have once it’s mastered. Letting go should then flick you around and onto the spot you want. ![]() It involves holding a wall and pressing down the kick and headbutt buttons to go limp, then you manipulate the limp ragdoll to position your legs in a good position. The other option is the Bendy Climb, this involves raising your feet above your head to bend your character around tight edges or corners and it’s more complicated. It’s a little dangerous as one wrong jump could cause you to slip and fall, but it’s easy to use in a pinch. The Normal Climb is what you think it is and it involves grabbing an object or prop with both hands and then using the jump button and repeated grabs to shimmy yourself along or up and over it. According to the community threads, there are two types, the Normal Climb, and the Bendy Climb. Scaling a prop lets you escape a fight and hide, get into a better position for a dropkick, or pick a new battleground if you’re getting your head rocked off the floor too much. However, on the way to the break room after activating the ink pressure from the projector room, Henry can possibly hear "Bendy" crawling through the pipes toward the Ink Machine room, beginning to be created. "Bendy" will not appear until Henry completely solves the puzzle in order to activate the Ink Machine. In Chapter 3, "Alice" mentions that "Bendy" hates it when anyone, even she, destroys the Bendy cutouts. He will emerge out frightfully quick in front of Henry whenever he is encountered unexpectedly giving a startling jumpscare. It is heavily implied that "Bendy" dwells anywhere in ink, and can even cause walls, ceilings, and floors to get covered by web-like ink whenever he appears. However, it is very clear he holds a grudge against Henry, as evidenced by how he attempts to kill him throughout the chapters. Not much is currently known about "Bendy's"personality, due to him having no lines through the duration of the first three chapters, and only making noise through grunts and roars. He also wears a bowtie close to the middle of his chest, which appears almost identical to Bendy's except being larger, and is slightly rotated to his right to give him a misshapen appearance.Ĭonsidering his stature, "Bendy" appears to be taller than any characters who physically appear in every chapters, and eventually towering over Henry. His feet are also mismatched his right foot is human-like with two toes, while the left appears to melt into a puddle to resemble a deformed-looking hoof, which gives him a limp. His right hand appears more human-like than a glove, looking smaller and painted partially in white (presumably to resemble a glove). The same hand also features a small, humanized pinkie-finger. On his left hand, he wears an oversized white glove that sports two buttons, similar to those on the original Bendy, but far smaller. His left arm is slightly longer than his right, looking thinner and less human. As seen from the side view of his head, the front and back of his head are fairly flat. His head highly resembles that of the original Bendy, but the top area of his head appears melted while obscuring his eyes, and his horns are slightly more curved and pointed in appearance. "Bendy" appears as a slightly malformed figure covered in black ink, with an appearance bearing many similarities to that of a human being. He is also known for stalking Henry around the old workshop and attempting to kill him. It is believed that he was created after activating the Ink Machine, where he flows out from said machine. He is an ink-covered, humanoid-like version of Bendy. "Bendy" is the primary antagonist appearing in Bendy and the Ink Machine from Chapter 1, 2, and 3. The ritual must be completed! Soon he will hear me. See Bendy (disambiguation) for other uses. |
